Shanti has made award-winning documentary and experimental film since 1992,
working at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and independently. KAIROS (17
min., 2002) is her first fiction film, made possible by the Pew Fellowship in the Arts. She was
awarded the IFP Involve New York Fellowship, which will support her transition into
directing features.
Her last documentary, SEVEN HOURS TO BURN (9 min.,1999) screened in
50 film festivals, won 10 awards, broadcast on the Sundance Channel and
was showcased by Kodak at the Cannes Film Festival. She produced, directed
and wrote CIRCLES (58 min.,1997); DOMINO (45 min., 1994); and CROSSING
BORDERS (25 min.,1992). These documentaries broadcast in 22 countries.
She completed her MFA in film at Temple University. She lives in Brooklyn,
New York.
